Prof. Keith Hampton‘s research on social isolation, urban places, and persistent and pervasive community was discussed in the article What Technology Can’t Change About Happiness in the online science magazine Nautilus. In the article, he argues that in conjunction with other modes of interaction, the use of technologies like social media can bolster existing relationships, contribute to diverse relationships, and keep dormant relationships alive.
